We bought a TL2000 with iSCSI-SAS bridge. The seller does not know the password. I need to get the password reset. I've seen on the forum before that if the Challenge Code is provided, the password can be reset. I am ready to get current Challenge Code if anyone at Dell can help me.

PowerVault MD3820F - Health Check/Firmware Version/Inventory Report
I have inherited a Dell PowerVault MD3820F and would like to learn a little more about the environment based on my installed array. Can you point me to CLI commands that will perform the following:
1) Display the installed version of frmware/operating system on the array
2) Display a list of the inventory of the installed array...disk, interfaces, etc...
3) Run a health check on the array to verify that the environment is health and no outstanding issues exist.
Thank you in advance.

Help with Current MD3000 Scenario on Virtual disk expansion and RAID 0 to 5 migration !
Folks,
In MDSM I noticed that the Virtual Disk our Exchange Server is using for our e-mail database is running in RAID 0!! (This was setup before I took over). There are two RAID Controllers and the Exchange Server is using Controller 0, Virtual Disk "Mail", and is using 3 Physical Disks out of the 14 present in the enclosure.
The second RAID Controller (1) has since been disconnected from it's host File Server (Due to a server upgrade and decommission of the old Host Server). It has the remaining 11 drives still associated to the Virtual Disk "File Server" in a RAID 5 config.
My question is:
(A) can I delete the "File Server" Virtual Disk and Disk Group, (and remove the old File Server Host Object), to free up the 11 Disks and use some to Expand my "Mail" Virtual Disk? Will I also have to change anything on Controller 1 to let Controller 0 'Have' those disks?
(B) Will adding those disks to Expand my "Mail" Virtual Disk re-Initialize it and kill my Exchange Database?? (Common sense tells me 'no', but not taking any chances with my non-redundant e-mail database)
(C) Once I have added the required drives to "Mail" to expand it sufficiently, can I then migrate the drive from RAID 0 to RAID 5? Again with no threat to my database?
(D) Finally, when "Mail' has been successfully expanded and converted to RAID 5, will anything need to be done with the host server, or will the new drive capacity simply just change and show up in Disk Manager?
It appears I can do this all through the MDSM. (Yes?)
Thank you all for your help!! I'm on borrowed time here so any speedy responses are greatly appreciated!
Typical speeds using iSCSI-SAS card?
I have a TL2000 equipped with an iSCSI card and a single LTO-5 tape drive. The server I'm using for testing is a Dell R510 (Windows Server 2016 - Symantec Backup Exec) with a Dell H200E SAS HBA adapter. If I connect the tape drive to the server via SAS, I see typical speeds ranging from 100MB~135MB/second. Using the iSCSI card, speeds dropped to between 5MB~15MB/sec.
I was using the latest firmware for the iSCSI card (v1.02.04) and tape library (e.30 3.20e) and LTO5 drive was F991.
I found someone else having the same issue so I downgraded the firmware (per the suggested fix) of the tape drive to E6Q3 and the tape library to c.30 and now I'm seeing speeds of 50~55MB/sec when viewing the status page of the iSCSI card - which is about half of the theoretical speed of a gigabit connection.
I have a few questions - what maximum speeds should I expect to see using iSCSI under ideal circumstances? Was the speed issues fixed in the latest tape drive firmware (G9N1)?
No option to manage controller modules in MDSM for MD3000i
I'm needing to take the raid controller offline in an MD3000i to replace the battery. I don't seen an option to "Manage RAID Controller Modules" anywhere in the MDSM application, it should be under the support tab, correct? I'm not seeing it there.
SCOM monitoring of MD3460
Hi,
Just trying to set up SCOM monitoring for two new MD3460s using SCOM 2012R2 and the latest Dell MP (6.1.0.52)
From the pic below there are some questions.
1. How can I change the PATH to a different Management Server in the Management Group? Is it easier to uninstall the MP from the existing MS and re-install on the one I want, or is there a file that I can edit?
2. How do I get the Not Monitored status (empty green circles) to change to the Monitored state?
3. An alert comes up in SCOM for: RBODABBDiscover.vbs : ABB Toolset Folder not found on the OpsMgr Management Server. Please install/repair the Dell MD Storage Array Management Pack Suite 6.1 to get the ABB Toolset and to monitor the MD Storage Arrays using Dell MD Storage Array Management Pack 6.1.
The solution given is: Ensure the IP listing file (dell_MDStorageArray_ip.cfg (or overridden path setting)), containing the list of MD Storage Array IP addresses, is present in the installed library folder (ABB Toolset folder) or in the overridden IP Config file path location. Refer to Dell MD Storage Array Management Pack Suite 6.1 Install or User's Guide about creating the IP listing file.
For the install only the Default settings were used. The dell_MDStorageArray_ip.cfg is there and has the appropriate IPs. I am unsure what else is needed to get around this alert. It seems to be alerting for the other Management Servers that the install did NOT occur on. The MS that the MP was installed on is not alerting with this problem. Should I just disable this alert?
Thankyou,

MD3420SAS - cant connect host
Hi,
I have a problem with R430 (Windows 2016) with 1 two-ports SAS card Avago 9300-8e and two-controllers MD3420 SAS.
Connection:
SAS card port 1 <-> MD array controller 0 port 1
SAS card port 2 <-> MD array controller 1 port 1
From storage management i cant see any active host port.
I update drivers for SAS card, add mpio from MD ResourceCD, set SAS mpio support and upgrade MD3420 firmware (with NVSRAM).
Any ideas why its not working?
EDIT: in MD3420 Hardware-Host Interfaces i see all ports down
Thanks

Trying to configure RAID on MD1200
I have a MD1200 connected via 12Gbps SAS HBA on a R630 PE server. I can see the drives via OpenManage but when I try to setup the RAID it indicates that there are "No Task Available".
I was expecting to see Create Virtual Disk among other options.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

PowerVault TL2000 - Cleaning Request mid backup task
Hello guys,
I been have a problem with my TL2000, one to two times a week my backups tasks fail mid execution (I'm using HP Data Protector).
I have e-mail notification on for the TL2000, and a minute before the task fail on dataprotetor a receive a e-mail notification with "Drive Cleaning Request" followed by "Drive Warn or Crit Tape Alert Flag".
I have set up autocleaning on or off to the TL2000, same results.
Change cleaning tape no success.
System test pass with no errors.
The tape who is on the drive when an error occurs always has been flag as "Bad Tape" by the TL2000.
Library Firmware: E.30 / 3.20e
TL2000 LTO 6 - FC 2 Drives Direct Attach to R430
I have a TL2000 with 2 LTO-6 FC (8gbps) drives and i need to connect it to a Server R430 (Direct Attach)
According to this guide: downloads.dell.com/.../dell_powervault_compatibility_matrix_en-us.pdf is compatible direct attach connection between the
server and the Library.
Please, can someone advice:
* What kind of fiber cables to use?
* Any specific HBA to use?
* Any specific HBA/Library setting?
I just need to be sure that everything is compatible,
Thank you!
Michael.

Has anyone tried using iStar storage with this model server and card? We are looking for something that will support 6TB drives.
Advice on Fiber Channel Host Bus Adapter for PowerEdge R820 backup to PowerVault TL2000
Need advice on FC FBA adapter for PowerEdge R820 backup to PowerVault TL2000
I have 3 x R820 servers which currently have Qlogic QLE2462 4Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter installed for the sole purpose of backing up to the PowerVault TL2000.
I’m going to upgrade to an 8Gb FC HBA for faster backups. I would like some advice on the following Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters which are compatible with the R820.
- QLogic QLE2562 8Gb
- Emulex LPe12002 8Gb
- Brocade BR825 8Gb
Are there any advantages/disadvantages of one over the other.
Thank you
Is it possible to mix tapes if we have an LTO3 drive and an LTO5 drive installed on a TL4000? Could we separate by creating a second logical drive?
Is it possible to mix tapes if we have an LTO3 drive and an LTO5 drive installed on a TL4000? Could we separate by creating a second logical drive?
We have a TL4000 with two LTO5 fibre drives and two LTO3 SAS drives. I am not certain this arrangement will work. Has anybody here done anything similar?
Thanks,
Mike

Local Storage vs. SAN Performance
I have a perplexing issue with a client SQL server. The backstory is their SQL jobs started to incrementally take longer and longer to complete. They say nothing has been done on the SQL server side. This doesn't seem to be host related, as the issue persists from host to host. As part of our troubleshooting we upgraded their hosts with 10GB NIC's to the SAN. The problem persisted. As we continued to troubleshoot, we moved their SQL VM to local storage on the host. They said that after the move the VM began performing flawlessly.
I am not really sure why the VM would be performing better on local disks. They moved from a LUN made up of 24x15K disks in a RAID10 to 2x7.2K disks in a RAID1. I completed a series of benchmark tests using FIO, HDParm, and QPerf. Every test I have ran has the SAN outperforming the local disks (in some cases by a great deal). The only thing I can really think of is latency. Their particular SAN utilizes copper instead of fiber. I can't imagine it would make this significant of an impact thought. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated. Thank you.

MD3200i New disk not detected
Hi,
Our MD3200i gave a sudden disk failure message a few days ago and the hot spare kicked in. I have replaced the disk (E0/Slot0) but when inserted the drive is not detected, no lights and no spinning up.
When I removed the disk I did not do anything in MDSM first and cannot see anything to do now to detect it.
Other than shutting down all the VM's and Hosts that are using the storage and power cycling the enclosure I don't know what to do.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Gavin
