Possible disk corruption on MD3660i

I have a MD3660i connected to a NX3610 which hosts my EXSi VM storage. The ESXi is running on a M820 blade with 1TB of memory.

I have VM vmdk file on a volume created by ESXI during installation and after one of the power supplies caused a NAS reboot I cannot move, copy or delete this one file, I keep getting "input/output error" and :inappropriate ioctl for device" errors.  I do not see any indication of errors on the Powervault storage manager or the PowerVault NAS manager.

So my question is, is there anything else I can check on these device to ensure the problem is not there?

Thanks..

Physical Disk Bypassed

I have two disks in an MD3200i showing as being bypassed - slot 8 & slot 11.

I don't have any spare slots, so is it possible to determine whether the disks are the problem, or is it an problem with the enclosure?

Thanks,

Brian

updating old firmware on MD3220

We have an MD3220 that is on firmware version 07.80.41.60. We would like to move it to the latest version, apparently: 08.20.24.60

Is it possible to go directly to the latest version without having to install any intermediate versions?

Are there up-to-date instructions available for installing this firmware version (ie a link to something)?

Any other advice concerning this subject would be appreciated!

thanks.

I have an issue with our MD3200. We just got a replacement controller and I cannot clear the lockdown. I have a serial cable connected and Putty to view the serial connection. The end of the boot sequence reads:

Once again, when I enter S it does nothing but skip to the next line. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks!

Hi Friends,

I have DELL R710 with Controller PERC 6/i Integrated. We found that the battery for Controller PERC 6/i Integrated has failed with below details in OMSA,

State - Failed

Learn State - Idle

Next Learn Time - 8 days 20 hours

Maximum Learn Delay - 7 days 0 hours

Learn mode - Auto

This server is connected to a UPS line and I am afraid that the above battery failure cause any issue to the RAID configuration even if it runs continuously ?
What is the above message saying exactly ?

Can anyone please explain ?. Do I need to change the battery immediately ?

Lots of questions about the TL2000 and iSCSI card

I have a Dell Powervault TL2000 with an IBM 3580-5H LTO 5 tape drive and I would like to add a Dell iSCSI card, but I have a ton of questions that I can't seem to find the answer to:

1) What is the EXACT procedure for adding an iSCSI card to a TL2000 that never had one installed?

2) Do both network ports need to be connected for it to be accessed at 10.10.10.10?

3) Does the SAS port need to have a drive connected for the iSCSI card to respond to 10..10.10.10?

4) Which network adapter (close the SAS port or the one next to it) on the iSCSI adapter is used for web management at 10.10.10.10 - or doesn't it matter?

5) When you initially plug in the iSCSI card, will the TL2000 recognize the card in any way? Does it show any confirmation on the tape library's web management page that the card was added?

6) Do I need to flash the firmware of the tape library for it to recognize the iSCSI card, or is a completely independant device?

7) Is it common practice for network admins to change the default IP address of the iSCSI adapters? If so, what would be a common IP address range that would be used?

8 Does the iSCSI card respond to pings? Will it respond to port scans of 80(http) and 3260(iSCSI)?

9) Does the iSCSI card show any network activity when it boots up, or does it only respond to requests?

10) If you had to scan the network to find the iSCSI card (if the default IP address of 10.10.10.10 was changed to something else) - what program do you recommend? Better yet, if you did scan your network to find the iSCSI card - what software did you use?

I'd love to hear from someone who has personal experience adding an iSCSI card to a Powervault TL2000/4000 because I'm on my second iSCSI card and it seems to be doing the same thing as the first one I thought was defective - nothing. I'm not sure if my TL2000 is defective; if the second card is bad, or I'm just an idiot with 36 years of professional IT experience and I'm missing something simple...

Accidentally deleted IP address on server connecting to MD3200i

I'm trying to figure out some network IP conflict issues and noticed that our server connecting to our MD3200i had two IP addresses on the same NIC. I deleted the 192.168... address not realizing it was maintaining a connection to our MD3200i for drive storage.

I did not write down the 192.168... address, and I'm now having trouble trying to reconnect to the MD3200i. How can I reconnect to it? I've created a new static address 192.168.130.22 since it's similar to the 192.168.130.21 address one of our other servers is using to connect to the drives, but it's not working.

The iSCSI discovered target is stuck on Reconnecting.

The servers and drive array are all out of warranty, so I can't get any help from Dell.

Thanks in advance,

J. J.

Powervault TL2000 - will a Quantum FH tape drive work with it?

$

I have a Dell TL2000 tape library and I was wondering if will work with other tape drive brands like Quantum, specifically the Quantum FH LTO-5 drive model # TC-L451AN. I found a good deal on a brand new bare drive and I was wondering if the tape library would work with it, or am I stuck using IBM/Dell LTO drives? It looks like it has the right connector for the tape library control cable and I was wondering if that connection is universal between all autoloaders and tape libraries. I would think it is since it doesn't make sense to manufacture different drives for every brand of tape library out there - but maybe I'm wrong. Does anyone know if they are (universal)?

Needing to replace failed-unresponsive drives, three total, in a MD3000. My question is do I need to do the drives one at a time if they all show failed-unresponsive? Or one at a time? Also do I need to run a command to prepare the drives for replacement? Also is there a way to see how far along in the rebuilding process the drives are so I know when to replace the next drive?

Thanks in advance

Firmware upgrade MD3060e

$

Hello community,

I'm new to Dell so excuse my ignorance.

We recently acquired a refurbished Dell PowerVault MD3060e connected to a R710 via a Perc8 SAS controller. The server is setup as VEEAM B&R.

We are experiencing some issues with the server, in that it crashes about once a week. Every 5 to 6 days approximately. It used to crash every friday evening when our synthetic full backup starts. This is currently not the case anymore since i set it to use active full backups. So two weeks ago the server kept running and i was very happy.

2 days ago the server crashed again, "Error 0 on ID 0" is what the logging shows. I tried to research it, but wasn't able to find a solution yet.

In my search to resolve the issue, i'm trying to update/upgrade all the components. I'm currently trying to upgrade the firmware of the MD3060e. While Windows Server see's enclosure, i'm unable to find an adapter or emm when i use the Storage Enclosure Management Software. When i perform secli list adapters i see none.

Am i missing something? What do i need to do to be able to query the device? As far as i can tell there is no cabling needed?

Any help/insight is greatly appreciated

Peter

Lost connection to MD3000 when performing a controller replacement

$

Hi All,

I have an MD3000 with two controllers. A while ago I checked out Modular Disk Storage Manager health status and I had a controller that needed replacement, so I replaced it today and rebooted the system because the error persisted.

After the reboot I completely lost connection to the device.

These are the observations I made:

1. When the array powers up pin to the management interface of one of the controllers is OK.

2. After some time this management interface stops answering to ping.

3. Tried with the substituted controller out as well, with the sam result.

I can ping the iscsi interfaces but it looks that with this software I cannot add manually the array with this IP addresses, neither do I with the management interface of course.

So practically I have a huge amount of data completely lost, because the array is unaccessible, what a mess!!

Is there a way that I can access this data anyhow??

PLEASE HELP:...

Thanks! javi

PowerVault NX3200, PERC H710 Mini controller, need driver for Windows Server 2012

I've got a Powervault NX3200 with a PERC H710 Mini controller. It's running MS Storage Server 2012  (a slimmed down Windows Server 2012, non R2)  I can't find an updated driver for the H710 on this OS.  Dell's support page for the system shows a driver for Server 2008 R2 but not 2012.  The 2008 driver will not install on 2012. Open Manage Server Admin shows this for the versions:

Driver version is out of date
Firmware Version: 21.3.2-0005
Driver Version: 6.801.05.00
Minimum Required Driver Version: 6.803.21.00
Storport Driver Version: 6.2.9200.16813

The "driver out of date" alert came up after updating other drivers and firmware for the system.  It is running fine but but the fans are making a lot more noise since the other updates.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bob G
