We have an R720 with an H710p mini running Windows Server 2016. We added an LSI 9300-8e with the hopes of connecting an MD1400 to it. I know that the 9300-8e & MD1400 are rated 12Gbps and that we will not see that, because the H710p mini only does 6Gbps. That is ok with us; it should still auto-negotiate down to 6Gbps, correct? Dell lists the 9300-8e as compatble with the 12G servers, including the R720. I just cannot get OpenManage Server Admin to recognize the MD1400. Windows and OMSA see the 9300-8e.
It has been awhile since I last configured a PowerVault, so it is possible I am missing something. Are we supposed to use something besides OMSA to manage PowerVaults?
Various tidbits that might help answer my question.
- We are running UEFI
- OMSA is 8.5.0
- I've updated the drivers of the 9300-8e to 2.51.21.00
- H710p mini firmware is 21.3.5-0002
- H710p mini driver is 6.805.03.00
- R720 BIOS is 2.5.4
- 9300-8e IT firmware is 15.00.00.00
- 9300-8e BIOS is 08.35.00.00
- 9300-8e UEFI BSD is 17.00.00.00
During post, if I set the 9300-8e to "Legacy BIOS" mode, I can see it initializing and it lists all of the drives in the MD1400. The MD1400 does not show up in Windows/OMSA or in H710p mini config app. If I disable the "Legacy BIOS" mode of the 9300-8e, no output during post, and same thing as earlier -- the MD1400 isn't see in OMSA.
I'm not sure what else to do to get the MD1400 to show up so I can configure it.
