Migrating MD3220 to MD3420 on the same HBA

Hi Team.

I am looking at migrating off an MD3220 to an MD3420 due to the old device becoming end of life.
The MD3220 is currently connected to 2 * R730 running vmware 6 via dual-pathed 12GBps SAS HBAs

I need to migrate a whole bunch of data from one device to the other.

My plan was to remove one of the paths from each of the R730 and connect it to the 3420. So, from the R730, one port of the HBA would be connected to the MD3220 and one port on the same HBA would be connected to the MD3420.

I can then use VMware to migrate my vms between datastores.

Once everything is migrated, I remove the 3220 from service and dual-path the R730 servers to the MD3420

Does anyone know if this would work and if this would be a feasible way to do this ?
