Hi Everyone and thanks for any response,
Relative newbie here undergoing trial by fire learning.
We have an MD3000i array connected to two R610 host machines. Windows 2008r2 cluster hosting our vms.
Received a message in MDSM saying bad battery in controller 1. Went through the support guru process and replaced the battery. Upon restarting the controller it has failed. After removing and adding the array to MDSM I receive the messafae "The storage array contains a controller which has not been added....." I am able to ping the ethernet port on the failing controller intermittently.
From my research I've pretty much resigned myself to having to replace the controller. My question is what happens if the firmware levels on the two controllers don't match. Due to the age of the equipment it appears I need to buy a refurbished controller unit and I won't know the firmware level until I can power it up. The firmware on the existing, working controller is not the most recent according to Dell's website.
My understanding is that the two controllers will talk to each other and try to match firmware. Am I in danger of losing my array and all the data on the disks when I try to get the controllers both synched?
Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thank you
Chuck
