Hi folks. I recently purchased a MD3420 with 24 1TB drives. This is connected to two PE630 servers via two 12GB SAS HBAs. The idea is to use the MD3420 to host a Clustered Storage Space (CSS) for a failover cluster hosted by the two PE630 servers.
As far as I can tell, I have to create disk pools or disk groups on the MD3420, and the create virtual disks that the PE630s can then access. That works fine, however, I have to create several RAID 0 virtual disks on the MD3420, and then use the failover cluster manager withing windows to then use those virtual disks on the MD3420 to create the CSS.
The question is - Can the PE630's not access the physical drives or drive pools/groups on the MD3420 directly without having to create the RAID 0 virtual disks on the MD3420? It seems like this is two layers of virtual disks. Can the MD3420 not present the physical drives directly to windows?
Thanks for any assistance on this issue.
