Hi All,
Hopefully someone will be able to help, we have a dell R710 and R810 each are connected to seperate MD1200 SANs.
due to the location of the servers and sans the aircon has no power backup as a result we have setup safe shutdown for the r710 and r810 if the power goes off or the temperature goes up high should power fail.
We have tested this fine, my concern is around the sans they have no front end to configure anything against as are connected using direct SAS cables.
I have read the tech guide and i can see it has a thermal shutdown in the sans which cut out the sans when they reach 35 degrees but this does seem high.
the servers are enclosed in a cabinet which is fully enclosed with aircon bolted to the side (due to the nature of the location in a listed building we cannot add normal aircon units).
The battery will keep going for a good 30 minutes so concerned that the sans will just keep heating up to the point of cutting out with the thermal cut out.
Do the sans have the ability to shut off when the header server they are connected to power down - i.e. they dont get a signal from a host in 5 minutes and switch off.
long shot I know.
Anyone have any experience of thermal issues with these sans and the repercussions of the sans running hot.
cheers
Lee
