I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction regarding using (2) LSI 3008 SAS HBAs to connect to a Powervault MD3260. The goal is to have redundant paths to the LUNS presented by the MD3260. I have done a ton of these configurations as iSCSI, but this is my first attempt to create a fault tolerant SAS implementation.
I have a Dell R630, with (2) LSI 3008 SAS HBAs. Port 0 of each HBA is connected to Port 0 on either Controller 0 or Controller 1 of the MD3260. In other words, HBA 3, port 0 cabled to Controller 0, port 0 and HBA4, port 0 cabled to Controller 1, port 0. ESXi 5.5 U3D is installed on the host and it sees both HBAs (HBA3 and HBA4 respectively).
When I create a virtual disk on the MD3260 and re-scan for new storage devices, only HBA3 shows the new virtual disks. I cannot seem to find any way to configure vmWare to use BOTH HBAs to connect to the MD3260 for redundancy.
My concerns are obvious:
- If HBA3 fails, all access tot he MD3260 is lost
- If only HBA3 can access the vitual disks, then they will all have to be "owned" by Controller 0 (the controller this HBA is connected to) or else we cause a "not on prefered path" error at the MD3260.
A google search is failing me .... so can anyone here clarify things for me?
Thanks in advance.
