Our only company NAS server had an Windows Server 2008 update issue that caused the server to hang. After some internet searching it was determined we needed to boot from the operating system DVD to enter the recovery console. After inserting the DVD labeled "DELL Operating System Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2008 Standard with Service Pack 2" P/N 79VNP, the computer booted to the DVD and started to automatically wipe out the OS drives and reinstalled Windows Storage Server 2008. We were never given the chance to cancel or continue or back out or anything. Now we've had to restore the OS from the backup tape (which so far has been unsuccessful). Can anyone explain why Dell would distribute installation media like this (automatic OS wipe out) without a warning or something, or at least a chance to back out? It should be label boot & nuke instead I think.
